Corporate Activities

Finite Elements Analysis (FEA)
FEA is a computational technique utilized to predict structures response to static and dynamic loadings by discretising complex structure into elements and then assigning suitable material properties and physical constraints to the model. To obtain reliable product performance prediction during the development stage, NING Research engages experienced simulation engineers from diverse engineering backgrounds including mechanical, material and civil & structural to develop FEA models as a team.
FEA significantly reduces the number of physical prototypes and ensures the designs are optimized and achieve the intended structural and fatigue performance, safety and efficiency.

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
CFD is the study of fluid flow using computational and numerical methods. The physics of fluid flow is governed by the conservation of mass, momentum and energy, and solving these complex equations helps to generate insights into flow patterns, heat transfer, fluid-solid interactions, phase-change, species transport, discrete particle distribution, thermomechanical interactions and other important operational functions.
At NING Research, our engineers use a variety of general and specialised CFD software to tackle bespoke problems. Using in-house powerful workstations, we have performed more than 2,000 CFD simulations across a multitude of sectors, catering to unique needs and providing customized solutions.

Data Center Design and Analysis
Data center thermal management analysis involves optimization of cooling systems to maintain equipment performance and reliability combined with energy efficiency and environmental impact consideration. To achieve reliable design recommendations for fast paced DC development, professionally certified DC engineers from NING Research uses specialized CFD software for DC analysis and advanced thermal imaging tools to conduct the state of the art multiscale modeling that coupled microclimatic model for generator sets and cooling towers located in a built-up flow domain of kilometer scale to indoor model that captures flow in areas as narrow as millimeter scale such as gaps of raised floor panels and pipe flow into servers for liquid cooling.

Naval Architecture & Offshore Engineering
Naval Architectural & Offshore Structure modeling and simulation involves fatigue, structural integrity and flow design for both fixed and mobile marine vessels under normal and extreme operational conditions and also incidental loading conditions such as, fire, explosion, collision and vibration.
NING Research engineers from the SHIP team have extensive experience in design and analysis of FPSOs, offshore platforms, SMART ships and container ships and close working relationship alongside ship classification societies such as ABS, BV, CCS, DNV, and LR.
Since 2008, NING Research engineers have designed and analyzed no less than 20 FPSOs and container ships using FEA and CFD.

Fluid Structure Interaction (FSI) & Multiphysics
Fluid Structure Interaction (FSI) examines the interaction between a fluid and a structure, where the fluid flow influences the movement of the structure and the motion in turn affects the fluid flow.
At NING Research, we leverage high-fidelity simulations and a versatile software skillset to analyse complex interactions and conduct failure analysis, enabling industries to optimise designs and validate concepts before fabrication.
With a deep understanding of multi-physics coupling, our engineers deliver precise and reliable FSI insights tailored to complex engineering challenges. Whether for structural reinforcement, fatigue assessment, or performance optimization, our simulations provide the clarity needed for informed decision-making.

Traffic Simulation
Traffic simulation is the mathematical modeling of pedestrians and vehicles transportation systems. NING Research engineers use microscopic multi-modal traffic simulation software to model and analyze complex traffic scenarios to optimize traffic flow, signal timings and infrastructure planning.
Using traffic simulation, NING Research engineers are actively involved in the evaluation of vehicle and human performance and behavior in various scenarios and environments. This helps to identify potential safety issues and optimize algorithms without the risks and costs associated with real-world testing.
Driven by the advancements in AI and sensing technology, NING Research engineers are fervently modeling and simulating autonomous vehicles to improve safety, efficiency and mobility.

Software Development
Software development turns ideas into a functional software to enhance the outcome of our consulting works.
NING Research engineers from the computer department have developed a number of software driven by machine learning codes for purpose such as residual fatigue life prediction, rapid prototyping & optimization for manufacturing and decision making for fire safety and traffic policy. Our engineers have also developed a suite of software for buckling and fatigue life calculations applicable to ABS (American Bureau of Shipping) and DNV (Det Norske Veritas) guidelines.
Our software are applied in industries such as manufacturing, mining, offshore engineering and as well as government authorities & agencies.

Engineering Expert Witness
The engineering world is built on math and science. To reach the core of disputed engineering questions and resolve them fairly and without ambiguity, engineers have to rely on the fundamentals of math and science.
NING Research consultants utilize math and physics based engineering methods such as finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to impartially provide technical analysis and opinion in legal proceedings, assess engineering terms and compliance to industry standards. Our consultants remain relentlessly true to our quantified results and therefore we always win.
